Forget Opinions and Seek Professional Advice

24. April 2025

An opinion is NOT about the person hearing it. It’s a reflection of the person who expresses it.

Here’s an example: A family member called at the end of January telling me I should go to the gym, just like my husband. Then I’ll spend less time at home.

This has nothing to do with me.

My workplace is my home. Yes, I’m home a lot. That makes perfect sense. Yoga, Pilates, dog walking, meditation, and journaling are all part of my daily routine. Self-care and walks eat up hours of my day. No time for the gym, plus I hate it.

The problem with opinions is a lack of connection between the person giving and the person receiving them. It's based on what the opinionated individual thinks and believes.

The following day, I received a second call, this time from a different family member. Petra, get out of the house and go to the coffee shop.

Three weeks earlier, I started a new diet, avoiding sugar, dairy, eggs, and so on. Going to a café and staring at the cakes while going through a sugar withdrawal sounds like a torture to me. You wouldn't tell a recovering alcoholic to chill by the beer store, would you?

Don’t I know myself best?

We can't control what people say, think, or do. Unfortunately, it's true that opinionated people think they're always correct.

An unwanted opinion forced on you can negatively impact you.

You might feel…

belittled.
judged.
not being enough.

It is your job to deal with these feelings.

What’s the deal with guidance?

It begins with YOU seeking advice from a professional who has an ability, knowledge, and experience. You do it at your pace when you’re ready to work on an issue. You invite the person to help you.

The professional comes from a place of compassion and connects with you.

If I'm stuck thinking about the same thing, I know to ask for advice. Or the same situation keeps happening. I got help when my reactions impacted my decision-making. At times, I didn’t see the bigger picture and needed support to look at it from a different angle. Or I was keen to learn my lesson.

People seek advice when they're ready to change or find a solution. This naturally helps you develop as a person.

It’s crucial to turn to someone reliable. I’ve both a spiritual- and a non-spiritual mentor to guide me. In addition, I receive guidance and wisdom from the spirit world.

For me to thrive, it's essential that the energy and information I receive empowers me. I then turn inward. Here, I perceive the nudges of my mentors, the spiritual world, and my own free will. I then make my decision.
